My Hero Academia Characters Guide

Here are all of the My Hero Academia characters that we think you should know about, along with some details about who they are and what you should know about them and their powers. Keep in mind that we are going to keep this completely spoiler-free, so the fate of characters and any later hidden secrets will be left out of this character guide.

Class 1-A

At the very heart of the My Hero Academia manga and anime series is Class 1-A of UA High School in Japan. This is the premier class for aspiring superhero high school students. They are the stars of the series, and the story does a good job of juggling all 20 members of the class.

Izuku “Deku” Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya is the lead hero in My Hero Academia. At a young age, he is found to be part of the very small fraction of the world who has no quirk or superpowers of his own. This is unfortunate since his ultimate dream is to become a pro hero and save the world.

He loves his friends and will do anything in the world to protect him. Through this intense mindset of his, he encounters All Might, the number one hero in the world, and his world changes forever as he finally gets the chance to achieve his dream.

His power is One for All, allowing him to power up his various body parts for strong physical attacks in battle. His hero name is Deku, taken from his childhood bullying.

As the main hero in the series, My Hero Academia follows Deku’s journey to becoming a member of UA High School and eventually a pro hero. Through this, he learns about himself and his unique One for All quirk that has been bestowed upon him.

Katsuki Bakugo

Katsuki Bakugo is one of the other main protagonists in the series, being the foil to Deku’s heroic self. Bakugo has known Deku since they were young and picked on him, giving him the nickname “Deku” in the process. He is hot-headed and a pain to be around, having an explosive personality that matches his detonation superpower. He secretly hides his own desire to become the best hero.

Shoto Todoroki

Shoto Todoroki

The last of the three main high school protagonists in My Hero Academia we have Shoto Todoroki. His father is Endeavor, the world’s second-best pro hero, and he lives in the legacy of a harsh childhood. With a tragic past, he has inherited the powers of both of his parents, allowing him to use both fire and ice.

Ochaco Uraraka

Ochaco Uraraka is the main girl in Class 1-A that My Hero Academia focuses on. She is a kind and helpful girl with the ability to manipulate gravity. This allows her to send herself and anything/anyone she touches flying into the air or crashing back down. She has a clear crush on Deku but tries to hide her feelings towards him.

Tenya Ida

The class representative for Class 1-A, Tenya Ida is the natural-born leader type. He is a tactical and cautious person, always trying to do the right thing in every situation. He comes from a family of similar heroes in which he is able to use a nitro-like system in his legs to send him blasting forward at insanely fast speeds.

Eijiro Kirishima

Eijiro Kirishima is one of the members of Class 1-A and a powerful fighter in his own right. His superpower allows him to harden his entire body, being useful in both offensive and defensive situations. He is also one of the few friends of Bakugo and cares deeply for the lone wolf while others will stay away from him.

Momo Yaoyorozu

Momo Yaoyorozu is the assistant class representative for Class 1-A and another leader in the group. She is a natural genius with a unique power that allows her to create just about any object that she can imagine and conjure it into the real world. This insanely useful ability comes at a cost to her stamina, though, so she has to be careful when and how she uses it.

Fumikage Tokoyami

Fumikage Tokoyami is a high school student who resembles a bird head mixed with a human’s body. What is interesting about his quirk is that he has Dark Shadow, which is a mysterious shadow being that inhabits his body. They are able to work together in battle since they are technically two different people.

Tsuyu Asui

Tsuyu Asui is a strange girl with a quirk that has affected her very own genetic makeup. She has aspects of a frog that happen to be her powers at the same time. She is able to use a very long tongue in combat, swim in water with ease, and even stick to walls.

Mina Ashido

mina ashido

Mina Ashido is a girl in Class 1-A. Friends with Asui and Ochaco, she is has a strange design as looking almost like a pinkish-purple alien bug person. Her quirk is acid, which allows her to spit out devastating acid that will burn through objects and people alike.

Kyoka Jiro

Kyoka Jiro is a female member of Class 1-A. Her quirk is earphone jack, which literally causes her ears to have what look to be auxiliary cords hanging from them. These are attached directly to her body, allowing her to control sound waves and listen when connected to something. She is also, understandably, a huge fan of playing music.

Denki Kaminari

Denki Kaminari is a typical airhead, not too smart or notable in any way in Class 1-A. His power is electricity, but he has to be very careful as using it too much will literally fry his brain and make him useless for a period of time.

Toru Hagakure

Toru Hagakure is a member of the class who both sticks out and doesn’t at the same time. This is because her quirk is invisibility, and it is active at all times, meaning that no one is able to see her unless she is wearing clothes. As such, this also means that no one knows what she actually looks like, either.

Yuga Aoyama

Yuga Aoyama
Image from My Hero Academia Fandom

Yuga Aoyama may not be one of the more popular or even onscreen heroes in My Hero Academia and, yet, he finds a way to stand out even still. Aoyama is a Class 1-A student who is known as the Shining Hero with a unique quirk, to say the least.

Aoyama is capable of shooting a laser out of his belly button of all places, which can be used to attack enemies or even blind them for a time with the power of his shining light. While not prominently featured in the series at times, he never fails to take the spotlight when he is in a scene.

Mashirao Ojiro

One of the less-used characters in Class 1-A, Ojiro, is a martial artist who fights with his quirk that also happens to be part of his body. He has a bizarre tail that allows him to use unique fighting moves in battle to take on the foes that he is up against.

Koji Koda

koji koda
Image From My Hero Academia Wiki

Koji Koda has one of the most effective quirks in Class 1-A, but there is little that ever shows him using it. This is because Koji is a rather quiet and shy person who keeps to himself, to the point where someone thought he was unable to talk for a time.

That said, he can talk, and he needs to for his quirk that allows him to communicate with just about any animal. This can be done to help him search for an enemy or fight in battle together.

Rikido Sato

Rikido Sato is a sweets-loving student at UA High School who just so happens to have his love for desserts be part of his quirk. He is primarily a physical fighter, and his quirk helps him to do so by powering him up when he has consumed sugar. However, the downside is that using his quirk will make him sleepy soon after the sugar rush ends.

Mezo Shoji

Mezo Shoji is a peculiar student in the class with an appearance that is rather unique. He appears to have multiple arms and hands that are attached to his two main ones. These have numerous purposes to them as they are not just extra arms and hands that he can use in battle.

They can actually copy other parts of his body like eyes, for instance, to allow him to see around him in ways that others cannot.

Hanta Sero

Perhaps the most forgettable member of Class 1-A who has almost had no attention whatsoever in the series to date, we have Hanta Sero. His quirk is Tape, which allows him to shoot the tape-like substance out, swing around, tie people up, and so on.

Minoru Mineta

Minoru Mineta

The less said about Minoru Mineta, the better. This young student in Class 1-A has a rather annoying personality that has him obsessed over girls in a frustrating way. His quirk is odd, too, allowing him to produce sticky spheres that can attach to surfaces and people. To his credit, he has figured out some useful ways to apply his quirk in battle.

Class 1-B

Class 1-B is worth mentioning, though not all of them get the focus that the main cast in Class 1-A do. They are the secondary class at UA High, mostly composed of powerful students who are likely to end up on slightly different routes than the main characters.

Some of them will end up in the Support Department, where they will create gear to help out the main superheroes, while others might be sidekicks, while still others might be able to prove themselves and become pro heroes. Given that they are ranked behind Class 1-A, many of them have a chip on their shoulders and are rivals with their schoolmates.

UA High Teachers

U.A. High School

At UA High, there are several staff members who are current or former pro heroes themselves. Of the staff members, there are two main ones that are prominently featured in the story of Deku and Class 1-A.

All Might

All Might is one of the main characters of the My Hero Academia series and the primary hero that it focuses on among the staff members at UA High School. When not helping to teach the students how to become a hero, he also doubles as the number one greatest hero in the world.

All Might is very strong, capable of enhancing his body’s stats to the maximum level using One for All, the same quirk that Deku has. His speed, strength, stamina, and more are far above everyone else in the world. That said, it has taken a toll on his life to the point where, now, he is only capable of fighting for short bursts of time, but few know this secret.

Shota Aizawa/Eraser Head

The headteacher for Class 1-A is Shota Aizawa or Eraser Head, as his hero name is known to be. He is a quiet and serious teacher who can sometimes be harsh on the students in his group. That said, he does care about them and makes sure that they become the best pro heroes they can be.

His quirk is erasure, which allows him to cancel out anyone’s quirk for as long as he is looking at them and even if they are not within his eyesight anymore. The problem is that he cannot blink, or the effects of his quirk will stop.

Other Heroes

The high school students at UA High and their teachers are not the only heroes that are featured in this series. There are plenty of existing pro heroes that are focused on at times, be it for their own character development or how they are supporting the next generation of heroes.

Endeavor

Endeavor my hero academia
Image from My Hero Academia Fandom

Endeavor is the father of Todoroki and the world’s second-best superhero after All Might. A large, bulky man with tons of physical strength, his quirk is an overwhelming fire that his son has inherited from him. This fire is intense and can decimate most anything in a matter of seconds.

Unfortunately, while he is a hero, his personality is one that makes many question that status. His attitude is just as hot as his flames, leading to the difficult and unheroic raising of Todoroki.

Hawks

Hawks is the number three hero in the world after both All Might and Endeavor, respectively. His inclusion in the story comes a little bit later on, but he is notable for becoming an important character in future arcs. He has hawk-like wings that allow him to fly very fast. He can also throw the sharp feathers from his wings as a means of attacking.

Gran Torino

Gran Torino

Gran Torino is an older gentleman and hero who was once the mentor to All Might, teaching him a lot about how to be a pro hero. Eventually, in the story, he takes on the mentorship role for Deku as well, teaching him some crucial parts about his quirk.

As for Gran Torino’s own power, he has jet-like feet that allow him to shoot around a limited amount of space nearly instantly and kick someone with the sheer force of that speed as well.

Mirio Togata

Mirio Togata is a fellow student of Deku’s at UA High School but is a senior there. He is considered part of the “Big Three,” which are the top three students who will likely become very powerful pro heroes someday. To that end, he is even considered the number one among all of them.

Mirio has the permeation quirk, which is an extremely powerful one that allows him to essentially become like a ghost, able to pass through walls, the floor, people, and so on. This has allowed him to become nearly unstoppable in many fights since it is difficult for enemies to even hit him.

Eri

Eri mha

While not a pro hero or even an official hero at this time, there is the young Eri, who Deku encounters later in the story of My Hero Academia. She is a young girl who has one of the most powerful quirks in the world, but she has not yet learned how to properly use it.

Her quirk is the rewind ability, allowing her to reverse time on something or someone that she touches. In practice, this can be as simple as healing someone’s wounds back to a time when they did not exist, but it can also mean more dangerous means at the same time. As such, she is the target of a villainous organization.

Villains

A good hero story would not be complete without some villains to terrorize the world and antagonize the main heroes. My Hero Academia has a plethora of different villains that are featured throughout its pages, and these are some of the most notable heroes that are not necessarily associated with a certain organization.

Stain

Stain

Stain is one of the first villains that Deku and the gang encounter that is not part of a certain other group. Known officially as the Hero Killer Stain, he is a former hero himself who has turned against pro heroes due to what he believes is their inherent corruption. He has a goal of killing all fake heroes who fail to live up to All Might’s legacy.

Overhaul

Overhaul is another major villain in the series, running a Yakuza (mafia) organization. The criminal is seeking to use his quirk that allows him to break apart and put together anything at will to make his plans come to fruition. Those plans involve the young Eri.

Gentle Criminal

Gentle Criminal mha

Gentle Criminal is a strange “villain,” if you can even call him one who is a petty thief. Along with his partner in crime, he likes to film videos to showcase his villainous antics for the world to see.

La Brava

La Brava is the partner of Gentle Criminal, a girl who found his videos and became obsessed with wanting to be closer to him. She helps him in filming and executing his villainous acts.

Nomu

Nomu

The Nomu are less a specific person and a group of strange, created beings that are strong enemies. The League of Villains frequently uses the Nomu to torment and terrorize cities.

League of Villains

The League of Villains is the primary enemy of the main characters in My Hero Academia. They are such an important group that, at times, they even have their own story arcs and character development dedicated wholly to them. While some of the above villains might only appear in certain arcs, the League of Villains is an ever-present threat to society.

All for One

The League of Villains and just about everything bad going on in My Hero Academia started because of All for One. What began as a goal to take his younger brother’s quirk, One for All, All for One, has turned into the main enemy of All Might and the world. His quirk is far too powerful, too, allowing him to steal and subsequently use anyone else’s abilities.

Shigaraki

Shigaraki
Image from My Hero Academia Wiki

Tomura Shigaraki is the current leader of the League of Villains and a young man who operates in the shadows as he orchestrates his group to do terrible acts. He is one of the main villains of the entire series, and he becomes an ever-present threat more and more as it goes on.

Tomura’s quirk is decay, which is exactly what it sounds like. Anything that he touches can fall apart, including people. His goal is to kill All Might at any cost.

Kurogiri

One of the members of the League of Villains, Kurogiri, is a strange mass of darkness that somehow wears human clothes. Little is known about who or what he is beside the quirk that allows him to use shadows to teleport himself and others.

Dabi

Dabi is a member of the League of Villains with a sinister appearance that showcases scars on his face and body. His quirk is a simple one: blue flames that can be used to melt anything that comes across him.

Himiko Toga

Himiko Toga
Image From My Hero Academia Wiki

Himiko Toga is a high school student in the League who happened to become a villain after murdering a whole bunch of people. She is a crazy serial killer on the loose and one that has found a new target to become obsessed with in Deku. She seems to have strong feelings for him.

Twice

Last but not least, in the major members of the League of Villains, there is Twice. With an appearance and even personality that is quite similar in nature to Deadpool, Twice is a crazy dude but for different reasons than Himiko Toga.

The insanity of Twice comes from his quirk, which allows him to duplicate and make copies of himself. While seemingly useful in battle as he can fight with multiple versions of himself, this has also made him go insane as even he is unsure who is the real version of himself these days.

FAQs

Question: Who is Bakugo’s Crush?

Answer: The crush for Bakugo, both when it comes to who he likes and who likes him, is currently unknown even in the latest chapters of the manga. While it is possible that he will someday have a love interest, that is something that is uncertain at this time.
That said, this has not stopped the community from shipping Bakugo with a few different characters that he has an intense relationship with. While Deku is someone he has known for a very long time, that is not the main love interest that fans will bring up.
Some think Bakugo would go well with his other classmate Kirishima since he is one of his few close friends and a person that is capable of getting under his skin.

Question: How Old is Deku?

Answer: Deku is 16 years old at the current point in both the manga and the anime. He started out the series as a young boy who was told that he would never have a quirk while he enrolled into UA High as a freshman.
He has since turned 16 in the series and could be close to turning 17 soon since he has been at this age for a while now. His birthday is on July 15 in the My Hero Academia world.

Question: Does Deku Get a Girlfriend?

Answer: This is currently unknown as well. Deku does not have a love interest at this time in the manga or anime, but there are certainly hints at a possible romance in his future.
Ochaco is the obvious choice as she clearly crushes on Deku, but I, personally, think this is too easy and that Deku does not seem terribly interested in her in that way.
As such, I think it is hard to say who Deku will end up with. It also seems doubtful that he will be with Himiko Toga, the villainous high school serial killer who also obsesses over him, so we will have to wait and see for now. I, personally, have no one that I would ship him with at this time as there is not a character yet that makes sense for him, in my opinion.

Conclusion

There is so much more to My Hero Academia than just the characters that are featured in the manga and anime series. Learning about the people in the group is one thing, but seeing them in action is another. That is why we highly recommend checking out some of our other content about this wonderful franchise.
